I love decorating and throwing parties, especially when it comes to my new baby girl! I’ve been pretty obsessed with her Nursery (you can see that here), so I decided to keep with the “Rustic Glam” theme and have my baby shower in that as well.
A baby shower isn’t complete unless you have a diaper cake and diapers! Making diaper cakes is so much fun, especially when you can make it unique to fit the new mom’s style. If you’ve never made a diaper cake it’s pretty easy. Below I’ll give you a tutorial plus you’ll see how my Rustic Glam Baby Shower turned out.
How to make a Diaper Cake:
Supplies:
- Old paper towel holder
- Rubber bands, you’ll need a bunch!
- Ribbon
- Miscellaneous decor to suit your design
- Newborn Diapers, I recommend the Huggies Little Snugglers Plus available only at Costco. It has just the right amount of diapers to make a 4-tier cake. They also sell them on-line and include a extra bonus with the wipes clutch. Being a 2nd time mom I love using Huggies and definitely recommend them to all new moms. Not only is the Huggies Little Snugglers Plus pack a great value, but it’s also nice to know your little one is comfortable since they are designed to help keep your baby’s skin clean and healthy.
Step 1: Roll up all the diapers with the rubber bands. If you want to make a 4 tier cake you will need the entire box of the Huggies Newborn Pack which has 128 diapers.
Step 2: Wrap a rubber band around the paper towel holder and start adding diapers. It should be about 6 diapers.
Step 3: Add another rubber band and add a additional 12 diapers.
Step 4: Repeat another layer for a 3-tier cake. For a 4-tier cake you will need to add 2 more layers.
Step 5: Repeat the process for the 2nd and 3rd tiers.
Step 6: For the top tier you’ll add a additional diaper to create the center. You can either leave this layer sitting on top or use a push pin to secure it.
Step 7: Decorate! I added ribbon to all tiers and for the top I created mini bunting. I also topped it off with some booties. It also helps that the Huggies diapers come in adorable Disney Designs. Plus they’re in aqua and purple which fit’s my theme perfectly!
Now for my Baby shower table. I used the Diaper cake as the centerpiece and I loved how it turned out!
If your a new parent the one thing you’ll never want to run out of is diapers! I recommend making a back up kit for the car. I’ve had the experience of forgetting to refill the diaper bag and unfortunately realized I was out of diapers while running errands. Now I always keep 5 extra diapers plus a pack of wipes in my car. So, don’t forget to stock up on the Huggies Little Snugglers Plus pack. They’ll be $5 off from (9/1-9/25) with free shipping.
Know anyone having a baby anytime soon? Try making a diaper cake, I would love to know how it turned out.
Enjoy!

Nice work! Love the color too!
I planned a baby shower for my BFF once but nothing I made turned out as great as they looked on Pinterest, hihihi. My BFF happens to be great at DIY baby showers and she makes diaper cakes like yours, too. I’m just not sure she puts cardboard tubes in the middle. As far as I know, she just put one over the other when she starts setting up.

Hi there this is adborable! I am hoping to replicate for a shower this weekend! Can you tell me what size rubber bands you used and how many rolls of ribbon you used? Thanks!
Katy says
Hi Shelly! I bought a multipack for the rubberband’s and used small ones for individually wrapping each diaper then the larger ones to make the cake. For the ribbon I didn’t even use a full roll but I also used several colors for each. Good luck!
