Hi there! I normally don’t post on Thursdays but I discovered “One Room Challenge” yesterday and thought I have to do this! Of course I discover it the day before it starts, but I really need a kick in the butt to get me motivated on home projects.
If you haven’t heard about it, its hosted by Calling It Home. The challenge goes on for 6 weeks where I’ll update you each Thursday with the progress I’ve made each week.
The room I have chosen to makeover is my Office.
When we moved into our home about a year and a half ago, we were able to set this room up for the most part since I moved all my existing office decor right into it. Yet, I never really felt like my old decor fit. It also became a dumping ground for extra clutter and toys. This room is downstairs off of our family room & kitchen, so when we “cleaned” up that meant throw it in the office! So, my goal is to re-work this room so its functional and where I actually want to work.
So I’m taking you back to the beginning of this room. Here’s what it looked like the day we got the keys to our house.
It was pretty dirty, but the potential was endless. We ripped out our entire downstairs flooring, which in this room was tile.
We replaced the floor with a laminate wood floor. We also painted the room a light grey color.
I created an inspiration board for the feel I was going for. I plan to keep the grey wall paint and add white/charcoal/natural/aqua finishes with accents in gold.
So, here’s my plan for the room:
- Add a Ship-lap accent wall in white.
- Redo a old executive desk that I bought a couple of months back that is still sitting in my garage!
- Add shelving to the wall.
- Get organized, finding ways to hide the clutter.
- Update existing art, and add new art to the walls.
- Finally decorate the room so it becomes inviting and place I want to be.
This doesn’t seem like much, but I know it is. Especially while working full time and having a 1 1/2 year old. My only time to work on the room is the weekends so I hope I finish in time. But, this challenge is a much needed push and I’m so excited to start.
Make sure to come back every Thursday and see the progress of the room.
Also make sure to check out the other participants HERE, along with the linking participants HERE.
Enjoy!

Katy, I just love your plan and colors! We have similar tastes and the love for blue and white! So jealous you have wood floors. I can’t wait to see ship-lap accent wall! I hear ya, I have a 3 1/2 year old and 2 year old, so finding spare time is usually late at night or in the wee hours. 🙂 Let’s do this! Sarah, Sarah Sofia Productions
