When I was decorating my new entryway I wanted a larger grey rug. I had a vision in mind and found just what I was looking for. The only problem, it had no grip backing and would slide all over my travertine floors. So, I made my rug a non-slip rug with this one trick!
You know that feeling when you stumble upon that item you had in mind! I get so excited and motivated to finish a space when I find the perfect piece, like with my entryway rug. I ended up finding it at Homegoods, which as you know is hit or miss. But there it was, last one left and it was perfect!
When I got it home I was so excited to place it by my newly painted door, it matched perfectly. But then I stepped on it and it moved, like really moved. So I needed to find a solution to keep it in place.
Here’s how to Make Any Rug Non-Slip!
As you can see my rug had no grip on the back.
So, the trick to fixing that is a hot glue gun! It’s amazing how something so simple can be the best option.
Step 1
Grab a hot glue gun and lots of glue sticks.
Step 2
Start adding glue to the entire border of the rug. The thicker you make it the better. I also added a couple lines through the middle for more grip.
Step 3
Let it dry and it’s ready to be tested out. One disclaimer; I’m not sure how the glue will hold up if you need to wash your rug in the future. Unfortunately for me, my rug needs to be spot cleaned & no washer machine, so I won’t run into this problem.
After I tested it, I did need to add a little more glue to the middle, but after that it worked perfectly! No more sliding! Here’s more of the after. If you missed the entire entryway makeover, check it out:
