When it comes to decorating for Fall, Halloween, or even Thanksgiving I love incorporating pumpkins. Of course I would prefer to only use real pumpkins, but let’s be honest, that would cost a fortune to decorate my whole house with real pumpkins. So, the next best solution is to mix real and faux pumpkins!

I know a lot of people prefer to only use real, or maybe to only use faux pumpkins, but mixing them doesn’t have to be taboo.
In the past is was so difficult to find the specialty pumpkins in my area. I’m talking about the flat white pumpkins, or the soft green and blue pumpkins. It even use to be hard to find white pumpkins. So in the past I would resort to finding faux specialty pumpkins to fill the void.
But these days more and more options are being sold at Trader Joe’s and even grocery stores. With that said, spending $5-10 a specialty pumpkin adds up every year so I’ve learned to mix faux and real pumpkins.
Here’s How to Decorate with Real & Faux Pumpkins!
Every year I purchase a bunch of real mini pumpkins. My kids love picking them out and incorporating real mini pumpkins can be incredibly cost effective.
I then always purchase at least 1 or 2 real white or soft orange flat pumpkins. These are my favorite and perfect for stacking! I’ve only been able to find a real soft blue flat pumpkin once, so I’m always on the lookout!
Finally, I make sure to always purchase the typical orange pumpkin, or your carving pumpkin. These usually always sit on my front porch till we’re ready to carve them.

Besides the real pumpkins, I’ll mix in my faux pumpkins. I’ve learned they look best when you mix different colors of real and fake. So I won’t place a faux white pumpkin next to a real white pumpkin.
This year I have also loved mixing in my new my Vintage Aqua Glass Glitter Pumpkins. They add that extra pop next to the rest. You can see how I made them here.

So how do you decorate with pumpkins? Do you mix Real & Faux Pumpkins? Or are you totally against that? Happy decorating!
Enjoy!

This design is now my weakness. Very beautiful, atmospheric! I believe that this is the art that defines you as a deep and creative person. I especially like all sorts of details. I recently ordered triptych wall art from Texelprintstore.com. I like all sorts of fancy stuff. It’s amazing how everything around can inspire.
