I last shared progress of my front yard makeover, here. It’s been some time, but it’s complete! The before & after is pretty drastic and we’re loving how nice it turned out. Keep reading on to see the after pics!
To remind you, this was the before from the first day we got keys to our house. The second picture is where I last left off sharing our progress.
As you can see we had block walls installed, and stuccoed. We also had a brick cap added. So, now for our landscape progress.
This part my husband and I did ourselves. After we setup the yard for sprinklers we started by adding a plastic barrier to separate the planter from the grass. We dug trenches and then laid out the barrier.
Installing was super easy, you just nail the stakes through the barrier to the ground. After I setup the entire space I started arranging plants. We went with a subtropical theme since we live in southern California. We also wanted low maintenance plants and flowers, so we have several different variations of flax.
As you can see, we are the lucky ones in the neighborhood who have this electrical grid in our yard. But we just landscaped with a few plants around it to somewhat hide it.
Once everything was laid out, I started planting. We went with new/baby plants rather than mature. For one, it’s much much cheaper, and second we’re okay to wait and let it grow in.
The final step is adding the sod! We actually tried to seed the grass ourselves, but it didn’t take. So we ended up going the easy route and purchased sod.
We also added black wood chips to the planter and our front yard was complete! Here’s all the after pics!
It looks soo much better, and I love the after. But we already have had to battle rabbits. We have a major problem in our neighborhood, and they definitely love our house. So, now my husband and I are trying to keep our yard looking this nice.
But overall, I’m in love, especially with our gate!
Enjoy!
