DIY Home Projects Office One Room Challenge

DIY- Geo Terrarium Light

Happy Monday! This weekend has been a busy one for me, but I finished my Office makeover! Make sure to stop by this Thursday to see the full reveal.

Today I wanted to share my DIY Geo Terrarium to hanging light fixture. When starting this room I knew a big obstacle would be lighting. As I previously mentioned this is the only room downstairs where the previous owners did not install recessed lighting. My options were lots of lamps, have a electrician install lights, or a fun exposed light fixture. I went with option 3!

Supplies Needed:
-Geo Terrarium, I bought mine at World market
-Jute Rope Electrical Cord Kit, also from World market
-Drill with metal bit
-Edison Bulb

I was so excited when I found this terrarium because it had 1 side metal, 1 side open, and the rest were glass. It was meant to be a light fixture!

Then while shopping for this terrarium I stumbled upon this rope cord kit and it was a perfect match.

First you’ll need to cut a hole in the metal side, making sure to be very careful and not apply to much pressure.

Then you can add the screw on the light to make sure it fits.

I moved the stickers from the cord to the terrarium base so you won’t see them when its hanging.

Next I drilled holes for the ceiling hooks, 1 in the center of the room and 1 in the corner. Then I inserted the hook into the ceiling and screwed it tight.

I took the terrarium off and just hung the rope cord by the rings.

Finally, I added the terrarium back with my clear Edison style bulb and we were good to go!

Here’s with & without the light on.

This was such an easy DIY fix and I love it soo much!

All in all it cost about $85. For a similar option it could cost about $160.
