Our front door has a sidelight window next to it. The window has a privacy glass but it really doesn’t help. I would avoid answering the door whenever someone knocked because they could still see right in our house. This drove me crazy!
So… A Custom Curtain was needed!
Here are the before pics, if you look at the plant you can see how the privacy glass isn’t working.
I found a standard curtain panel, 54″ x 84″ along with some adjustable curtain rods.
I knew I had to cut the curtain panel down to fit the window, but what I didn’t realize was how sheer the panel was… So, I bought some basic lining.
Now to get out the sewing machine!
First, I finished the liner edges.
Then I laid the curtain & liner out to figure out how much to cut the liner down.
After cutting to size I started sewing the top edge together.
Next, I had to cut the grommets off the bottom edge. I measured then cut.
I then sewed just the curtain portion to have an opening for the curtain rod.
Once the curtain was to size, I pulled the liner back down and cut it to size. If you remember the top is already sewn together.
Then, I sewed the liner & curtain together.
Now, that the curtain was done I placed the curtain on the rod & added the curtain rod’s to the window.
Finally, it was time to adjust and see the results.
Light still comes through, but now someone on the other side can’t see into the house.
As you can see, we still don’t have a floor in our entry, nor moulding. That is to come…
Here’s from the outside.
