I’m so excited to finally share my unboxing of the NEW Cricut® Maker® 3 machine! It’s the ultimate cutting machine that’s smarter & faster than ever, featuring new compatible Smart Materials™ and accessories. Here’s everything you need to know!
Cricut Maker 3: Everything you need to know!
I’m sure the biggest question everyone has is; What are the differences between the different Cricut Maker models? Well, the key differences are speed, cut length, and cutting without a mat with Smart Materials. Read on to learn more!
Smart Materials™
If you have the Cricut Joy, then you know how amazing Smart Materials are. There’s no need for a mat, with Smart Materials, making is easier than ever: just load and go.
Smart Materials come in a variety of material types to fit the new Maker 3 machine. Including Smart Iron-On™, Smart Vinyl™, and Smart Paper™ Sticker Cardstock. With all of them, no mat is needed, but you can always still use a mat which is great when you’re trying to use up scraps. They also come in a wide variety of colors, effects, and material lengths.
Just keep in mind, even though the NEW Maker 3 and Explore 3 can use Smart Materials without a mat, you’re previous Maker and Explore machines won’t be compatible unless you use a mat with them.
Cricut Roll Holder & Tools
The new Cricut Roll Holder is amazing! It keeps your Smart rolled Material aligned for clean, precise cuts. Plus, it has a built-in trimmer to ensure a straight edge every time.
The Maker 3 also has an expandable suite of 13 tools (sold separately) for cutting, scoring, and embellishing.
With the Cricut Roll Holder I was able to quickly load my Smart Iron On Vinyl, and start cutting. There was no need to measure, prep a mat, or pre-cut my Smart Vinyl, because the Cricut Roll Holder helps manage bulky, long rolls, keeping them in place and perfectly aligned for long cuts.
After the Maker 3 cut my art, I was able to use the built-in trimmer which was such a time saver. Making a custom shirt from start to finish has never been quicker!
300+ Materials
On top of the Smart Materials you can still cut 300+ materials including fabric, balsa wood, leather, and chipboard. As long as the material is no thicker than 3/32″ of an inch, or 2.4mm, you’re good to go.
I think one of new favorite materials is the Smart Paper™ Sticker Cardstock. I was able to quickly create custom stickers.
New Additions & Speed
The Cricut Maker 3 boasts speed, power, and precision at up to 2x the speed of Maker with 10x the cutting force. Unlike past machines where you had to select Fast mode, there is no longer Fast Mode for Cricut Smart Materials because they’ve optimized the machine to ensure top speed while keeping the precision. However, Fast Mode is still available for materials on a mat in Design Space.
I was amazed how quickly I cut out my Smart Iron-On Holographic to make these custom koozies.
See how to make these custom Koozies here.
New additions include the USB port on the side of the Cricut Maker 3 which is a charging port for your mobile or tablet device! It also includes a docking slot!
The Cricut Maker 3 power adapter has also been upgraded to allow for 3 Amps of output. The upgraded capacity is needed to deliver 10x the cutting force and enables you to charge a mobile device via the charging port.
Overall the Cricut Maker 3 is wildly versatile, and powerfully you!
