Are you new to Cricut? Then you might be asking yourself what is the best beginner project to get started? I know when I first got my Cricut Explore Air 2 I had no idea where to start or what to even make. I had so many ideas of projects but they all seemed too complicated to attempt as a beginner project.
So, to help all you beginners out there, I’m sharing 10 of The Best Beginner Projects to make using your Cricut!
10 of The Best Beginner Projects using your Cricut
Every project in this roundup are all easy, simple, and great options for beginners, and if you’re ready for Summer, then you especially appreciate these projects since they’re all Summertime related.
So whether you just purchased a Cricut Maker, Explore Air 2, or Joy, here’s how you can get started.
1 – Watercolor Summer Vibes Sign
Making any type of sign is a great beginner project. Especially, when you buy a premade wood sign! For this Summer Vibes sign I painted some watercolor on cardstock, then used my Cricut Explorer Air 2 to cut the bicycle design. I glued that to the ready made wood sign and added the Vinyl wording to make a unique Summer sign.

2 – Custom Phone Decal
Add a little joy to your day with a custom phone decal. This is a great beginner project since you can make it as simple or complicated as you want with Vinyl. Plus, most phone cases are flat so it’s a great surface to learn on.
3 – Kids Summer Shirt
One of my favorite beginner projects are custom tees. They really are so easy to make with Cricut’s Iron-On Vinyl. If you’re new to Cricut, then most likely you won’t have a Heat Press yet, if so no worries you can still use your iron. However, if you plan on making Iron-On projects a habit, I really recommend purchasing any of Cricuts’ Heat Presses.
4 – Summer Rainbow Glassware
Glassware can be intimidating as a beginner project, but with Permanent Vinyl there’ nothing to be afraid of! I found these Rainbow colored glasses and customized them with Sippin’ on Summer art.

5 – Sun Kissed Cosmetic Bag
Cosmetic, pencil, or tote bags are all great ways to get comfortable with Cricut. Again, if you have a Heat Press it makes it that much easier. For this Sun Kissed bag I used Infusible Ink. Working with Infusible Ink may be a little tricky for a first time project, by using regular Iron-On instead is a great alternative.
6 – Summer Vibes Only Sign
Another sign, but much more simple since I only used Vinyl. You can also layer in colors, or keep it extra simple by only using one color.
7 – Garden Markers
These Garden Markers were so easy to make. I found these premade wood chalkboard markers and then I simply cut out Permanent Vinyl with my Cricut machine. This is definitely a favorite beginner project of mine.
8 – Make Waves Tank
Since I used to be a clothing designer, making graphics is close to my heart. But with Cricut anyone really can do it! Once you make your first tee you’ll be hooked.
9 – Watercolor Thank You Cards
Another simple watercolor project that looks more complicated than it is! For these Thank You cards I cut a piece of white cardstock in half, folded them, then quickly painted watercolor strokes. Then, I used the Cricut machine to draw on the Thank You, making it look store bought. You can also purchase premade cards on Cricut.
10 – Vacay Fund Jar
Finally, another simple beginner project is this Vacay Fund jar. Working on glass or a curved surface is a lot easier than you might think. I’ve labeled everything with my Cricut like water bottles, cookie jars, to potted plants, all are great beginner projects.
