When you think of Spring Cleaning, you might only think about cleaning your house, but Spring cleaning can be so much more. This year I’ve been on a big purge phase. If I don’t use something or need it anymore, then time to get rid of it. I’ve gone through most of my home, but the last thing to tidy up is my computer.
I have days where the moment I turn on my computer I get overwhelmed. My desktop among other things is incredibly disorganized, and I have learned clutter is clutter, whether digital or physical items. Sometimes it just needs to go.
So to help de-clutter my computer I started off with these tips: Simple Ways to Tidy up your Tech.
The first and best thing to get you started is to use CleanMyMac X! If you haven’t heard of it, then it’s a legit Mac cleaning app that does exactly what it says. It’s the all-in-one software package that scans & cleans your computer of junk making your computer run faster.
Just download and install the program on your Mac and then start scanning your computer. It gives you several options on how to clean & free up space.
As I mentioned before, my desktop is messy and unorganized. I tend to create folders for everything which adds to the clutter. So, to help eliminate this I started creating main folders and then organized everything into those (ie. Work, Finances, Kids, etc…). I also went though all my Bookmarks and cleaned out what I no longer use and need.
Old Email’s & Contacts
Another great feature of CleanMyMac is the “Mail Attachments” feature. It allows you to scan and clean up your email. CleanMyMac will make your Mac as good as new with all it’s features. I also took it a step further and cleared out really old contacts that I know I will never use.
Documents & Media Files
I went through old documents, like papers I wrote in high school, and cleared those out. I couldn’t believe I still had them saved on my computer! I also used CleanMyMac to clear out Media files from iTunes.
Finally, I used CleanMyMac to clear out Photo junk. CleanMyMac really helps clean up, speed up, and protect your Mac with just the one tool. Another thing I recently started doing is to delete bad photos after I upload them to my computer. All those blurry, out of focus, or just bad photos get deleted from the start.
