I’ve been wanting to re-do our IKEA Latt kids table for awhile now. This table was a perfect buy for our daughter and she loves using it. My only problem with it was it’s lack of style and color. Plus I wanted to give her some padding on the chairs since they were pretty uncomfortable.
We’ve only had the table for about a year and she’s already given it some wear. Here’s the before pics.
As you can see she likes to color on it! So I decided to update it with some paint and fabric. I used my Wise Owl Chalk Synthesis Paint to update the table and chairs. I wanted to make it a 2-tone table. So for the chairs I used the Vintage Duck Egg and the table is the Smokey Quartz color. I also have a new wax from Wise Owl Chalk Synthesis Paint called the Lemongrass Hemp Oil Black Wax.
Before I started painting I took apart the table and chairs and removed the seat/top portion.
I then painted all 3 pieces and let them dry. I wanted to give it more interest so I decided to add a contrast leg. I just used the opposite color for the legs. To do this I measured up 3″ and taped off where I wanted it.
Once everything was painted and dry I added the new Lemongrass Hemp Oil Black Wax. The instructions suggest to apply it in 2 ways; directly or onto a rag first. I went with the rag option.
I then moved onto the cushion. For this I used leftover fabric I had from some pillows. You can see that post HERE. I found the square foam at Walmart.
First, place the wood seat on top of the cushion. Then cut the foam to size.
Next, staple the fabric along 3 of the sides. I chose to only staple 3 sides rather than all 4 so once I put the cushion/seat back in place I could make sure the fabric was pulled tightly.
Next, you’ll need to take off the front piece of the chair. Then slide the cushion back into place. It might be snug so I used a mallet to help get it down.
Finally, pull the fabric tight and staple the last side. Assemble the chair back together and its ready.
You’ll also need to re-assemble the table. Here’s the finished result.
I love how it turned out! The Lemongrass Hemp Oil Black Wax also gives the color a extra dimension. Plus the fabric cushions are too cute!
Enjoy!

I purchased this table for my son to use while at work with me. It sits in the corner perfectly however I have been wanting to update it to match my furniture and decor in my office. Did you sand the table and chairs down before you began to paint?

I just bought this set. I didnt sand it. Just stained it and put a clear coat on it. Turned out really good.

May I ask what is the thickness of the foam pad you use for the seats? I was wonder if 3cm would be too thick..
